Why oh why wont my 18 months year old play with toys? He has been on his feet since he was 18 months old and he hasnt gotten the slightest interest in any toys. I can keep him occupied with painting and drawing for an hour or two but other than that its playing with anything that he shouldnt.

How old is he?
Have you tried mini brushes,pans,cooker,iron etc so he can "help" you. Sometimes they prefere to be doing big things.
Does he play with anything on his own. Is it a toy thing or an attention from you thing.
Either that try telling him not to play with his toys. I bet that works. LOL.

have you tried changing his toys. I rotate my sons toys regularly as he soon gets bored of them (19 months old).
Plus it means I havnt got so many to keep tidy, they get everywhere and i often find toy cars etc in my shoes lol
maybe give him some boxes, toys cars and make some ramps, my son loves 'driving' the cars over the boxes and down the ramps.
It is difficult to keep them entertained all the time so try and get his imagination going so that he can make up his own games and entertainment and not rely on mummy so much.

at that age they want to investigate and explore, they touch everything they shouldnt, make sure you have socket covers and stuff. its not important at this stage to pay with toys that are made to be played with, he'll learn and develp anyway, try giving him a small pan and a wooden spoon, he'll love playing drums, a cardboard box can also be exciting for him, try different household objects which are safe to play with. wooden pegs, ( not the sort with metal bits) can have faces drawn on them, they make great puppets to entertain him. with a bit of imagination the world is your oyster, enjoy your son while he's young, before you know it he'll be a sulky teenager. lol.
