ok the dad of my son whats his last name to be his do i the mother have the say if i dont want my son to have his last name and to keep my sons last name as mine

Yes of course you have a say. If you are not living together and the father isnt named on the birth certificate, then I believe the decision is soley yours. If you are together and/or the father is ont the birth certificate, have you thought of your son having both of your surnames?

I just wanted to add that there seems to be a few issues with the babys father, going by all your posts. If I was you, I would go to the Citizens Advice Bureau and explain the situation to them. They will then advise on exactly where both you and the father stand on all issues.

well i dont know how it is in your area, but in here in kentucky you can name your baby anything you want. the last name doesnt even have to be yours or the fathers. you can call the baby elvis presley if you want. its up to you. i've been through the same thing, but i decided to let the baby have her father's last name cause it sounded better with the rest of her name. no matter what name you choose it wont make any difference really. its still your little one no matter what.

just remember if you get married the child will have a different name to you and his dad. so if you let him have his dads name at least he will always have the same name as one of you

It is the same here, dragonrain.

A friend of mine has a son whose surname is different from his parents, as she wanted him to have her mothers maiden name.

As a side note...if you have a baby in hospital it will be known by the mothers surname, regardless of what name she will choose to register the baby under.
