Finger food options for a 10 mth old

Our 10 mth old boy is eating solids pretty well but more often than not he want to feed himself.
If I try to offer him some food to his mouth he blows a raspberry but if you put it on his tray, he will pick it up and eat it fine.
This is great however, wher we used to mash lots of veg and meat, we can't do that now and wanted to know what good finger foods I can give him that are easy to eat and give him plenty of nutrition.
There only so many times I can give him sandwiches or ham omlettes. Hes only got 4 teeth on the bottom he can't tear much apart with his mouth.
I would welcome any suggestions

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.there is plenty of toddler recipe books out for further ideas but what about just giving him cooked veg to eat in his hand in suitable size pieces like new potatoes, carrots etc. Fish fingers are pretty soft as is pasta. It may be really messy but just think whatever you used to give him can probably be adapted into some form of finger food instead. Don't abandon the idea of him eating off a spoon altogether though, if you ignore the raspberry blowing completely and distract him with books or toys whilst feeding it may work! Also have you tried giving him a spoon to hold too? Lots of babies blow raspberries when eating and it doesn't always mean they don't want to eat but our first usual reaction is to laugh then they repeat it because they think we find it funny and want them to do it! At the end of the day babies will eat when they are really hungry and if you don't make a fuss over the 'bad behaviour' it will hopefully stop very soon. Good luck

With my son (Mr independent), I used to give him something in his hand so that he could feed himself (bread, boiled stick of carrot etc...) and have a bowl of food that I fed him.
He felt like he was feeding himself and I was satisfied that I could pop a mouthful in as well. (You might have tried this already!)

A whole peeled apple or carrot will keep him quiet for ages if you are busy in the kitchen! Can easily be washed if he drops it on the floor. He may stick the carrot down his throat a few times, but he will soon get the idea! He will be able to knaw bits off without fear of choking.
Also grated cheese, raisins, pasta, crisps like quavers and skips, banana, halved grapes. It isn't good to give young children a very 'healthy' diet because they need the extra calories for all the growing they are doing.

At that age i gave my son pretty much everything all fruit and veg, even apple and raw carrot which i know some mums dont , but i think if you stay with them they will be fine. He used to suck the apple until it dissolved. he only got his first tooth at 10 months. And he also loved picking up peas one by one!
Best to get them used to lots of new and unusual flavours and textures so they are more likely to eat them when they are older, things like avocado, celery, raw broccoli, cherry tomatoes, pieces of well cooked meat, or fish, pasta, try putting things like avocado or humus on toast.

Hi, you can buy these really good food mesh things- think of what you put your washing tablets in but with a handle- I know a certain brand is called Munchkin baby safe feeders as my Dad sent me a couple and you can get them online , basically you can put anything in them, fruit, ice (if they're teething, mine went mad for ice!) carrots etc, and they chew it through the mesh so they don't choke on any lumps but get the nutrients of the food.
