The best method to get the desired behavior is positive reinforcement. The best reinforcers are what your child likes or enjoys doing. It is different for everyone. When the child does something good, you reward them. Most children respond well to praise, like "great job" or "I'm so proud of you." It doesn't have to be material things. You could say, if you do well today, we will play a game or you can watch tv for an extra 30 minutes. You just need to decide what your child wants. It wouldn't be any use rewarding them with something they don't like. I hope this helps. There are also numerous websites on positive reinforcement.
Postive reinforcement and ignore the bad or at least don't rise to it. Don't make threats you can't or won't carry out. Mean what you say and don't change your mind. Love your child and enjoy the happy moments. No-one said bringing up children was easy, but don't expect it to be conflict free.
