Disiplining a 1yr old
Any helpful tips on disciplining my 1 yr old son or getting to understand the word NO.
My son has a tendancy to smack you across the face for no reason (probably just playing) but when Ive told him NO NAUGHTY he just does it again - it is only of late that he will now kiss you (as a possible apology) but then the next minute you get a smack again. Ive done the NO NAUGHTY followed by putting him on the floor and walking away - this can sometimes leave him a little distressed which then upsets me. I know its all to do with perserving but anyone got any other approaches???

Praise, welcome and accept positive actions, but help your son to learn that smacking is inappropriate by ignoring him - if he is on your lap for instance and smacks you, then break eye contact immediately and place him on the floor. Occupy yourself with other things and totally ignore him for a set period of time. He will soon associate the lack of your attention, lack of communication and lack of interest with his negative behaviours. If you give him lots of smiles, attention and kisses when he acts correctly then you should see some improvemnet. This approach worked when my son was biting me. Good Luck .x
