When my son was born I now have a feeling that I put the wrong father on the papers. Does anyone know how to go about changing that? My son is now 4 years old. Need help and no one is giving me the right answers.

????? You "have a feeling?????

What has prompted you to now want to change the father 4 years down the line?
Anyway, it sounds like you don't know who the father is so what would be the point in changing it? If it's only a "feeling"
what would happen if later on the person you put on the BC WASNT the father, would you just change it again?

When you say "You have a feeling....", you're obviously still not sure shorty.

I understand that you want your son to have the correct father's name on his birth certificate, but wouldn't it be best to make sure first, by obtaining the correct DNA results first? If that's possible of course.
i agree with smudge shorty 22. You need to be sure i think before you do go about changing as this could cause alot of upset if you got it all wrong again
It is not easy to change the name on a birth certificate.

you cannot change the name on the original registration, the real dad can adopt him legally as long as the dad you put down gives consent.
When you go to register a child as I understand it you have to take the father with you. So do both parents have to produce photographic evidence to support their applications? What is stopping someone taking a guy and he says my name is Fred Bloggs when in fact he is Harry Smith?
Not sure if it is different in England Jill, but you don't need to have the father present if you are married to him.

shorty I agree with the others here, you need to be absolutely sure who the father is before you decide to make any changes (if they are possible). Were you sure at the time you registered him, or is it that the person you chose to put down is not being a good father so you would like to change your mind now?

What makes you think you got it wrong, does he now lok like a different partner of yours?

Just wondering how someone can be named on a birth certificate when they aren't married to the mother and didn't go to the registry office? so wondered if you needed to take any evidence
you can't nannyjillx2
a firend of mine's unmarried partner died before the baby was born, and his name could not go on the BC
