taking my baby out soon and he will need feeding while we are out so am wondering what is the best way to store his bottles... if i put the cool boiled water in his bottle and the formula powder in a seperate bowl and mix together when i need it can i feed it to him at room temperature or will it need to be warmed? or is it best to take the bottle ready made and keep chilled in cool bag and warm through when i need it?... thanks x

i would either take an insulated bag with the boiled water in and cool once i added the powder (which is the advised way to avoid any bugs or (when kids were older) i would use cooler water straight away.

i thought id read that it is best to add the powder when needed. i have one of those dispensers with 3 compartments, cartons are no good atm as he doesnt drink that much and i would be stuck carrying half a carton of milk around trying not to spill it!!!
so if i made up when needed could i feed at room temp? or should it be warmed through?

Congratulations PinkAngel.
I think it depends on the baby how warm it needs to be, I have seen babies drink it straight from cold, but I think keeping it at room temperature is the likely to be the way that germs are most likely to breed. You are better to keep it cold and then warm it when required. If the place you are going to doesn't have any warming facilities, then your only option is to use your body temperature to warm it up. When mine were on bottles, they weren't new born, so were a bit more predicable in when you were likely to need the milk, so I used to stick it next to my body about half an hour before needed and it took the chill off it enough for them to be happy with it.

I take out a bottle with 4oz water in, a flask of freshly boiled water and the formula in the little tub thing. When baby picky wants his bottle, I used the boiled water in the flask to pour into the cool water in the bottle, measure it up to 6oz and put the formula in. Just adjust the amount of cold water for the amount of milk you want to make up. I do this at home too - freshly made formula each time and no waiting around for it to cool down, it's there ready. Easy peasy!
