My friend finds out the gender of her baby today and wants to do a gender revealed. Undecided as to whether it's a cute idea, or a bit tacky...

Ah I see my question was anticipated. Zero surprise at the answer.
Perhaps they'll have a reveal shower while they're at it.
Each to their own I suppose.
Pregnant people do tend to think they are the first and most special humans (I did at the time) and assume gender reveals are of massive interest to everyone else when they are not
It's a bit ironic to do it when within a few years the parents may well be in the media advocating no gender, binary, multigender and all the other myriads of formats we are supposed to embrace.
that's something else i dont understand. what if it was the opposite to wht they were hoping for would they have a gender sadness party, or send, "sorry to heave to tell you but it's a boy" texts. I remember telling people my daughter was going to be a girl and they were all "how lovely" they would have said exactly the same if id have said it's a boy
totally tacky!
anyway I thought gender neutral was all the go these days!
Very. very tacky!
//I thought gender neutral was all the go these days! //

indeed. maybe best thing for parents to do these days is wait until "baby" is old enough to decide for itself what gender it is.
If its not my baby (which it never ever will be) then I don't care.

Completely tacky!
If you want people to know, just tell them for goodness sake.
I'm sure most would be underwhelmed at the news, but too polite to say so. And don't get me started on political correctness!

Thanks for you all of your responses! I do care what the gender of the baby is, but a nice message would suffice! I don't need pink or blue glitter to be excited.
You can't always tell the sex from a scan. It would be quite funny if the party was arranged and they had to shuffle in saying 'We don't know yet'.

Another tacky American import.
The world has gone mad!
What is wrong with?:
"Woman has baby , feeds it , looks after it and takes it in the park in't's pram."
"Man tells woman what a clever girl she is, gets dressed and goes of to work to support wife and baby.
What's this "bonding?" It's rubbish, a baby just needs feeding and it couldn't care less who feeds it.

Tacky.

Sqad...I really do not agree. One of my children was/is completely attached to me. He wouldn't have fed from a random strangers breast.
ummmm

"He wouldn't have fed from a random strangers breast."

I believe you, but how do you know AND that "random stranger may not have needed a breast, he/she could used a bottle?

And spath, I rang her yesterday, she knows, but she won't tell me!! Not until the 'gender reveal'
