On Monday, had barium meal/swallow x-ray to look at eisophogus & stomach. A few hours later had terrible stabbing pains hight up under right side of ribs. Still experiencing pain on & off especially when breathing in. Coincidence? Have anybody here had similar in the past? Thanks.

No, but could be that some of the barium liquid has been inhaled into the lungs - if continues, best to get in touch with medics. x

Never thought about that Haz. If it's still painful tomorrow, will ring GP surgery. Thanks.

It won't have been inhaled into the lungs.  Speaking to your GP is the best bet.  Don't worry.

Thanks 237.

All symptoms fit with inflammation of gallbladder. I don't feel nauseous though.

As your oesophagus (gullet) is close proximity to the trachea (windpipe), the barium liquid may be inhaled, via the trachea, into the lungs.

Question Author

It can happen Haz. I  haven't git cough or any other symptoms though. Just thought it could be linked to barium liquid. I was given extra to drink as I drank the first lot too quickly while having  x-ray..
