I beleive you should avoid all shellfish during pregnancy, however, breaded scampi may be a different matter. Are you talking about frozen battered scampi you buy in packets?
I hope so as I had some last week. I dont remember having a ban on seaafood just to be careful that it hasn't been sitting around for long periods. I know your only supposed to have maximum of 2 tins of tuna and tinned fish as they can contain mercury and once inside your body it never comes out.
This is sooo confusing. I was told to avoid all seafood, including prawns (scampi). Do different NHS areas hand out different advice? Is if its not hard enough being pregnant they have to make it more difficult by offering conflicting information.
Can anyone tell I'm hormonal today? lol.
Seafood is a yes, if cooked, definitly not raw, I ate cooked prawns, and scampi is fine as its cooked at a very high temp.
Tuna, its actually 2 tuna steaks, or 4 cans per week.
I had 8 years between my pregnancies and the differences are amazing these days!
My midwife said I could eat prawns if i HAD DEFROSTED THEM CAREFULLY AT HOME AND THEY HAD BEEN REFrigerated properly (sorry bout the capitals) she said it was not the shellfish but the fact if eaten out they had often not been kept properly and that was the problem. She said I was fine to have the old king prawn fried rice etc. and I survived. It is hard now though with so many doos and donts. Be sensible is the best idea.
