advice needed - pregnant?
16 Answers
I have checked and double checked my dates, but should have started my period 4 days ago. Also have a nasty cold, which I know can complicate things, but has never thrown me off my very regular 28 day cycle before. Did a test this morning which was negative. Have other symptoms too (loss of appetite, coffee made me throw up the other day, very tired) but how much of this could be due to my cold? What should I do? Don't have a mum to phone, don't want to get my husband's hopes up, but could I be pregnant?

The cold and bugs going around could give you those symptoms but so could pregnancy. Morning sickness doesnt usually occur until a little bit later but aversions to food and drinks starts early.
I would suggest that you test every few days until you either get a postive result or your period as the hormone is not always easy to trace with some tests on market.
Talk to your husband anyway, it may help you relax a bit more if you can share it with him.

thanks redcrx. We're trying. Will probably try another test if no period in the next few days. It was my understanding that the tests were really accurate though, having read the information on the leaflets. I'm really hoping that the test was wrong. Have spoken to my husband about it, he was really calm and said early days yet, we'll see ....
I really appreciate your reply, thanks.

Hi Phsycicsgirl, red is absolutely right, the only way to ever know for sure is keep doing tests til either one shows positive or until you get your period.
I just wanted to add though......... tests are very accurate these days, so accurate in fact, that most doctors dont even bother doing their own test after you have had a positive home test. When you fall pregnant you get a hormone build up in you that only pregnant women get, this can take time for enough to show up and give you a positive result. You may well be pregnant, but not have enough of this hormone yet.
Good luck and let us know how it all goes!

I know it may not seem like it now, but its easier waiting a few days to find out than it is when you get to 32 weeks pregnant and know you have another slow 8 weeks to go before baby arrives! lol
I had a few negative tests before I had a positive so I know what you are feeling right now. It really is hard to say either way just on symptoms so keep retesting :)

I have a colleague who's due in mid march with twins. She left at Christmas and was already the biggest pregnant lady I'd ever seen! I really felt for her as she got up (slowly!) to accept her maternity-leave gift at the meeting.
It's really helpful to hear other people's stories/advice, particularly with no parents/grandparents to ask for advice ... that's a bit worrying too, as none of my friends have children yet (even though I'm 33 this month). So thanks again.

Im 35 and my friends dont have children either so i know how you feel, although my mum can just about remember her last pregnancy 25 years ago.

Sorry to hear that Physicsgirl, it will happen though :)
Remember, dont try too hard and just have fun trying! You'll miss all that fun when your 8 months pregnant and have backache and 24 tiredness lol And of course all those interrupted moments of passion when baby has arrived. Yes, definately make the most of trying lol
Good luck ;)
