I have just got a coldsore as you all know redcrx gave birth to amelia on Friday but wont be seeing her for a few weeks now, but think my mate has just gone into labour and I dont want to see baby if it might catch something, anyone any advice on this
The only way for it to spread is through direct contact. Providing you dont kiss the baby or touch him/her after touching your coldsore, s/he will be fine.
Morning 4get - I certainly wouldn't stay away from seeing the new baby when he/she arrives, but as Psychick says - so long as you don't touch the sore and then the child, or kiss it, I don't see how you could pass anything on, as cold sores come from viral infections, spread by contact.. In any case, you can get some good medication from chemists these days, that should dry the sore up pretty quickly, such as Zovirax and Denavir. x
Zovirax webiste: http://www.zovirax.co.uk/howtotreat.htm
Taken from website: Dont kiss anyone especially young children and babies. Open sores can spread the virus, but so can saliva.
Ow, 4get! Sounds painful! I've never had one, thank God (and touch wood!). It's a bit of a running joke in my family not to let my grandma catch you with a kiss, as she always used to have them. :(
Ive just remembered, I came out in several coldsores after the birth of my first daughter and she didnt get any despite me holding her and caring for her.
Why didnt I remember that earlier? God I need help to save me few brain cells!
