Anyone had this problem with a Breastfed baby, and know of any self help remedies ? My poor little baby suffers terribly and screams uncontrollably for hours each night.

You probably need to avoid coffee, cabbage, brussel sprouts, onions, spicy foods and anything that traditionally causes wind or can be irritating to the tummy - think bland! Try that, and you might find that it settles down. My first was always really bad for having tummy pains at the weekends until I realised it seemed to be trggered by the curry I was having on a Friday night! When I cut out the curry, he was much improved. See if changing your diet helps - may take a day or two to make any difference.
My son had terrible colic, and he was breast-fed.
As for remedies, my midwife suggested colocynth granules, which are available from Boots, and are a homeopathic remedy. However, as the instructions were not very clear, we ended up using Infacol drops. It took a few days, but eventually settled down.
We also used baby massage, and there is a special colic massage. I felt this did not only relax baby, but relaxed me as well. And swaddling him at night helped too.
Here's hoping the poor wee toot is better soon.

hi little miss how are you? i think almost all newborns have this at some stage although i think some do cry more than others! i'm pretty sure that bottle fed babies get it just the same so stopping breastfeeding wont help! Riya hasnt been too bad only some difficult evenings, i dont give her anything just hold her if i can or put her in a sling while doing stuff, there was one night when i gave her pre boiled water, she wasnt too keen on the bottle but threw up the water after and then settled and slept 6 hours that night. She's now 8 weeks and is so much better at coping with the wind so i hope it does get better for you soon.
