Many women experience spotting during their pregnancies, usually with no adverse effects whatsoever. It's alarming and distressing, but light spotting is rarely a cause for concern. Generally, the bleed is much heavier if it is a sign of a problem.

Your son's girlfriend has done the right thing in getting it checked out, and hopefully it'll put everyone's mind at rest that all is well.

I do hope everything's okay and that the pregnancy progresses well and trouble-free. Best wishes to the family x

thanks for that Mrs Y, they arrived back about 8.30 and the emergency doc has booked her in for a scan on monday and told her it seems ok. as i say, it never happened to me and it's such a shock, but hopefully it is as you say, thanks
can be perfectly normal my sister had 3 periods at the start of her pregnancy and i had some spotting. dont worry whats meant to be will be.
My wife had this in her first pregnancy.

The resultant offspring is now six foot one, and top of his class.
That must be very worrying but I know that it is quite normal and know that some women continue to have periods throughout their term :)

Hope everything is ok and that scan on Monday puts all of your minds at rest XX
AAAhhh dot-I bled quite a bit with my 2nd-and he's a wonderful 7r old lad. I remember sitting on the loo screaming and crying my head off and cursing my midwife while my hubby was on the phone patiently answering all her routine questions before he took me down to hospital. I was fine and hopefully your son's gf wil be as well. Fingers crossed and I hope it's good news. God bles mumx

It's great to be able to get such good answers on here and they have realy helped me tonight, I've tried to tell her that it's probably nothing but she's abit upset so i feel abit useless. I never experienced it, and my 9.5 year old grandson was only announced when she was 32 weeks pregnant cos my son was 17 and she was 15, and so it's new to me and my son to be following a pregnancy right from the start........it's ups and downs all the way i guess

thanks guys
Oh ((((Dot)))))

I have nothing more to add to what these lovely folk have said, but I'm sending you cyber hugs and keeping my fingers crossed for you all xxx
Every new life is precious and precarious so it's only natural to be anxious and worried, and am sending you (((hugs)))

:)
spotting can be completely normal... i would like to say all is ok, but i am no doctor... i have been in this position myself 6 times in succession.... i hope everything goes well for you all.. if you need to ask more, feel free.. i understand only too well your anxiety..
i had periods till i was 5 months with my last child, i didnt even know i was pregnant and he was fine and my mum had them all the way through with me and im fairly normal lol
I had spotting at around 9 weeks and was worried. As several other people have said, it can tend to be a symptom in early pregnancy and doesn't necessarily mean there is something seriously wrong.

Having reported this to my GP, I was sent for a scan, which showed everything was ok, they couldn't really explain why the spotting had ocurred.

It's been a bad day for my son and his GF, she is now losing heavily and has mild period pains but all the hospital have said is try not to worry and wait until the scan at 8.50asm monday morning. It is going to be a long weekend ......... I reallt appreciate your posts and they have helped me stay abit calmer. thanks.
do you think if she could get to an A&E, they would scan her straight away? or a maternity unit?

otherwise you're all in for a long wait til Monday.
Hi dot - I'm hoping that all will be well but it must be a very worrying time for you. Sara is right, under the circumstances can't they do something before Monday? Sending ((((hugs))))

hi sara, hi bensmum, she has been in touch with (I Think) the same emergency surgery she went to last night and they have tried to reassure her that she should rest and try not to worry and that it is quite common. apparently the medication she has been on the last few months was for a hormone thing and so that may be part of it. But I don;t know if she has asked about going for a scan before monday, her mum and dad have just been up and her mum seems to think leaving her here to rest is the best for now. I'm trying to stay out of the way unless asked for help. It is gonna be a wait.
Im thinking of you dot at this stressful time, i had what youve described , bleeding and terrible pains and i thought id lost the baby ,im going back nearly 24 years now and thankfully i didnt loose the baby ...hes a healthy strapping 6ft err .now
Hope all is ok soon dot xxx

thanks ladybird, it's tough on the pair of them having to wait until the scan in the morning, when i got home from work at 6 my son said he thinks she's lost it and he's quite down. But I keep telling them that it is not uncommon and she may be fine, it's not easy to convince then to be positive. thanks again though.
thinking of you all today.
hope its good news x
me too x
