I took a first pregnancy test (just a shop brand) and it came back positive so just to make sure I went and got a more expensive one (clear blue) but this came back negative. They were both done on the same day. Could the first one just be a fluke being a cheaper brand as the more expensive one is likely to be accurate? Thanks.

I'm sure Ive been told before that you can have a false negative but not a false positive
does it have a window that indicates the test has been performed correctly?
to be sure i would get a digital. it will tell you yes or no and how far gone you are. they are very sensitive too
go to a clinic or ur doctors and have a test done there.

Thanks guys, It does have the window to show test has performed correctly. Does the cheapness of the test not affect the accuracy?
I'd say do another one, of a well-known brand. The pregnancy hormone is stronger in your first wee of the morning, so if you can wait til morning try again then.

Could drinking a lot before the test result in a negative test?
yes.

the nhs uses ultra cheap pregnancy tests, so i dont think the cheapness is any indication
As 4get has said, you can get a false negative, but not a false positive. I would do as notafish has suggested and do another one but first thing in the morning. I have found from personal expeireince that it doesnt have to be an expensive test. Cheap tests gave correct results for both my pregnancies.
as already said. Your first wee of the day is the best time to test as your urine is more concentrated.

if its very early in the pregnancy then some tests may not show a true result.

Thanks everyone, think I'll wait a couple of days (if I can) then do another in the morning.
Pregnancy tests measure the amount of the pregnancy hormone (HGC, I thnk it's called) in your urine. The cheaper one may be more sensitive than the more expensive one. Check the boxes and it will tell you how much hormone it detects. This is why you can get false negatives (if the test isn't sensitive enough - eg you test too early) but not false positives (if it finds the hormone, you're pregnant. End of.

Good luck - I hope you get the result you want.
Did you do another test? Did you get the result you wanted? Let us know!!!
