Not so much a question as a rant. It's mr mac's birthday on Friday and his mum and sister always have to take him out for a meal on the actual day. They're really not fans of mine, and they usually pretty much ignore my daughter and I at these meals. Also SIL always picks the venue which is always somewhere expensive, she always complains about something and basically the whole evening revolves around her. We decided that this year he would go out with them on Friday, then on Saturday the 3 of us would go for a meal, daughter would get picked up by her dad after and then we'd have a night out. Today, SIL said she was busy on friday so could they change the meal to Sat. When Mr mac said we had plans she said that was fine, they'd just come along with us. No invite or anything, she has just decided what everyone is doing. I'm fuming! What was going to be a nice family meal and a good night out will now be stressful and me and mini me will sit minding our ps and qs while being ignored and mr mac will end up getting more and more annoyed at his mum and sister. We'd change our night out to the Friday, but my daughter can only stay with her dad on Saturday. Aaaaaarrrggghhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tell her to f off. You've made plans, your husband is a grown up so tough!
Question Author
I would, but I don't want to cause trouble for him. Sis is very domineering and mr mac is kind of scared of her (along with everyone who knows her). She'd make his life a misery if he said anything.
well do you feel better. ? :) you have a fair point, but you oh and daughter can have other nice times together, some people are just miserable. try take no notice,,
Mr mac needs to tell her that she can't come.
ditto^^
could SIL be a bit jealous ?
Let her go to the place you had planned and go somewhere else yourselves.
Someone's got to tell SIL that the evening was planned for you 3...and NO ONE ELSE.
Seems SIL takes advantage of people being afraid of her,and that's not on.
Question Author
Oh yes - she's very jealous. She tried to get mr mac to dump me and sign up to the lonely hearts because she didn't approve of me, then she caused no end of trouble over the wedding because she was the eldest and should've got married first - she was in her 50s by the time we got married! The 3 of us don't get out for meals that often due to money, so we were looking forward to it. As for mr mac standing up to her - it'll never happen which infuriates me but there's not much I can do.
What you playing at? Tell them to Fosters off .. you're going to the 'clinic' or something like that?
Not the underdog there are you? No? ... Do it.
: ) x
'Fosters' lol ... Sure I wrote pi$$ : )
You have to get him to put his foot down.

Seriously...what can she do about it? Rant and rave...although annoying...ignore her.

I'd explain the situation nicely and politely and if she kicks up I'd walk away/hang up/shut the door.
Question Author
It's not my place to tell them anything Al - it's up to mr mac. If I got involved it would only make things a helluva lot worse for him.
Tell him you might well be ill on that day then .. if he doesn't make the excuse : )
Gimme the number .. I'll ring 'em ; )
Question Author
If it were up to me I'd tell them both to take a flying fcuk to themselves, but for a quiet life for mr m, I'll suck it up and play nice. I just wanted a damn good rant about it, she's a cheeky bitch ;) xx
What is the worst that can happen?
Question Author
Well in the past when they don't get their way, mum pulls a 'Steptoe' and ends up in hospital with 'chest pains' (there has never actually been anything wrong). Mr mac is such a bloody softie though, he ends up beating himself up about it and feeling guilty for months - and they always twist the knife. He's just too nice for his own good, but at 54 he's not going to change now (and I wouldn't want him to - it's part of his charm ;) )
well I hope she is paying for the meal and I hope you oirder the most expensive thing on the menu along with the wine and the pudding
Question Author
Nah Dot - it'll be split 3 ways between MIL, SIL and me :(
Karen - I know you say it's not your place....but if he's that soft with them...maybe you should step in. You're his wife, you have a say in what happens.

I'd bite the bullet and do it on his behalf...
