I'm at the end of my tether!!

6 Days back at school and my daughter has already lost a pair of football socks. I am so angry. These aren't cheap, have to buy them at a "Special Shop"! £8.00!!
I have told her so many times the importance of making sure she doesn't lose anything as these things cost so much money. I am struggling as it is financially. I'm afraid I lost it with her this morning:0(

I know it's just a pair of socks but it's the money and now the time and cost to go 15 miles to get them.
What am I to do?

Then she'd refuse, there'd be a situation between the school and her, and her parents. I don't think there are any easy answers. I assume this isn't a regular occurrance.

Not pocket money as such. I pay for her to have riding lessons every week. That's £20.00. I know I can cancel it but I will feel that I have let down the instructor (She's a friend) if I did.

I think one is in danger of creating a more fraught situation. If it isn't deliberate and common then expressing annoyance is probably the way to go.

Unfortunately, she has lost a few other things in the past. Coats, Jumpers etc. I thought starting "Big " school she may be a bit more responsible, but I was wrong.

I think a lot of the schools take the micky with what they expect parents to purchase. I can understand certain blazers or jumpers but a pair of socks! I'm sure it would make parents lives easier if they simply required plain black socks that you could get 12 pairs for £8.00 you have to pay for one.

I sympathise icemaiden, my son alwasy loses things and the school stuff is very expensive and they are very strict about them having it. When he was smaller he would get holes in the knees of all his school trousers by skidding along the floor.

As it's not a olne off I would definately find some way of her paying it back, whether in cash or chores, so she realises the value. I hate this back to school time of year, always seems to be more and more money.

I know Evianbaby. It is madness I agree. In total I have spent £230 on school uniform because I have to buy them at this certain shop.
One week back and they have already asked for £18 for the school fund and £10 for the cost of materials in Design and Technology. I'm broke!

Trouble is, it might not be her fault. My kids were always 'losing' things when they were at school. I think they were stolen, but what can you prove? Sometimes it is just as well to accept what you can do nothing about rather than making an embarrassing fuss. Awful when you haven't got much money.

Mine lost a DS and a bunch of games once! God knows how he's kept hold of his tiny Ipod for so long......

I presume that you have contacted the school to see if they have them in lost property or anything?

After my son "lost" his umpteenth (very expensive)rugby shirt I wrote to the school and said that I wasn't prepared to buy any more equipment as I simply could no longer afford it.I also said that unlike some parents I didn't encourage my son to steal in order to get said equipment.I had every single thing right down to his socks name tagged so someone somewhere must have known this stuff didn't belong to their child.I never had any more hassle and his sports stuff was supplied from lost property as and when needed.The schools expect far too much from parents limited resources these days and the fact that you can only purchase uniforms from a special(expensive)shop is ridiculous
