i want to buy my nephew a gift, something he can keep but stumped for ideas

i;ve been thinking about baby books, cuddly toy, money boxes but i really have no idea

do you still have things you were bought as a child and what were they, or what have you bought for a child that has lasted? i have humphrey the dog and a pewter plate that did have dumbo on it but thats all but faded now considereing the amount of times i've moved i'm amazed i still have them

I am contemplating one of those whisky thingies as well, but my bro might not be too impressed

I agree.. special teddy.

I'll take the xbox.
Open a savings account and put a few quid in it, by the time he is 18 he will be really appreciative of it.
I started a collection of classic childrens books for a friend many years ago all in nice bindings....things like enid blyton, etc later adding things like Dumas, and other adventure type stuff... one each birthday and one each christmas

for another friend A painted glass window hanging with birthdate and name on she still has it and she's now 17
What about one of those little box's/tins that say "baby's first curl". I think you can get them for the first tooth (that falls out) too... but you might have to wait a while for that.
Also, I really like those plaster sets, where you can set the baby's handprint.
ive got some ideas on my FB ;)

Ive always struggled with gifts for boys, girls are easier. How about a st christopher? or a nice train set that you can add to over the years?
Train set is a good idea, but something "nice" and old fashioned... not plastic.
Or, I like wooden soldiers.

i'm thinking something in jade, we both had jade charms on necklaces as pressies from our malaysian relatives

hmmmmm
Question Author
but i also like the idea of a baby book/tin thingy

and i'm rubbish although books and train sets are great - something i can add to is a bad idea as i'll just forget all about it

i am a crap aunt as my neices love to remind me
Ohh, just thought of something else.

You can get books that are personalised with the child's name. That would be nice.

The jade charm sounds lovely and relevant.... or maybe a little jade statuette representing the chinese year ....
I gave my sister some money and told her to get things she or the baby needed as I figured that would be more useful. I'm going to be god-mum (if I don't burn upon entering the church) so am trying to think of something to get my nephew that's special on that day... i'm also failing miserably.

How about an animal adoption in their name or trees planted through the woodland trust
what a fabulous name. :)
Have you got a picture? I'll email you one later this evening of proud auntie China and nephew. I've not tired of boring people with him yet. I brought him his first cot/bed, doubt that's particularly memorable but is at least helpful... I'm pretty rubbish at it too. If you can knit then one of the girls at work knitted a blanket for my consultants baby and he'll probably have that to keep forever, it's a nice idea but I can knit about as well as I cook...

I don't want to get him anything remotely religious for his baptism (from me, my mum can do that).... I thought of something with his handprint and my hand print in and some touching words but it sounds a bit cliched and tripe when I voiced it.... I just don't know.
savings account always a good start, and a special teddy bear to cuddle.
