my mum loves pointing out her apparent wealth to me yet she moaned when i gave her a new phone that she would have to pay to get it unlocked.

i assume you gave her a phone locked into a network she doesn;t want and she wanted to change the network, her problem not yours, maybe you should ask her which mobile phone network she uses next time you want to give her a surprise gift

Unwanted gift. Who wants a present that they never asked for and which costs them money or causes them any inconvenience? If she did ask for it, why didn't you ensure that it wouldn't need unlocking ?


Her apparent wealth ? Have you seen any sign of it? If she keeps mentioning it, she may be doing so to try to exercise some control over you. You could always ask for proof of it! Then you could tell her that it wasn't enough to buy you!
