My mother suffers from Lewy Bodies Syndrome (a form of dementure) and will soon need a full time carer. My mother in law (although in resonable health) is 90 and could do with some help around the house. I'm thinking about leaving my job and becomming a carer for them both. Does anyone know what kind of benifts or allowance I might be entitled to? The govenment websites aren't terribly helpful. Many thanks M.

You need to do your homework Myriad - it is not so straightforward.
£61-35 a week, you can earn up to £5200 additional. Pensions are exempt and they will consider trust income as part of pension too..... Attendance allowance is different and that goes to the 'patient' and amounts to a tad over £200 monthly.
My father had dementia. Refused to allow anyone into his flat apart from me although he thought I was someone else.
Never received a penny.
