Wedding Pics On Fb
54 Answers
I think lots know now that I've recently got married and am currently on honeymoon. I would like your opinions on this - we haven't had the official wedding photos yet obviously as we are still abroad however my SIL who came out for the wedding has posted wedding pictures she took on Facebook. I'm a bit miffed and feel she should have asked first. I have absolutely no intention of saying anything but don't you think this is a bit off? maybe I'm wrong?

My niece opened a private group FB page where everyone was asked to put up their pics, then when she was happy (and had the official pics too) she put what she wanted on her more public page - you might want to consider that.
I've not been around much lately, so I didn't know about your nuptials, Prudie - congratulations indeed!

I'll repost this from Prudie's thread
jno jnr and bride are honeymooning, and both have sworn off FB and Twitter while away, for precisely the reason VHG mentions: it's not a good idea to tell the world your house is empty.
I used to know a newspaper columnist who always wrote extra columns in advance to have published while he was away on holidays, because he didn't want the paper to aplogise for his absence by saying "McGillicuddy is away for three weeks". Same reason.

>>>VHG, posting wedding photos isn't telling anyone their house is empty,
Nearly everyone who gets married has a honeymoon.
There is a good chance, just after a wedding, you will be on a honeymoon, so any wedding photos posted will indicate the couple are not in their house.
But if you are happy to tell the world you are out your house when you are on holiday then good for you, but don't start moaning if you come back from a holiday to a burgled house.

Plus it is not being paranoid, it is being sensible.
Why don't you search the internet to see how many warnings there are from the police about not advertising the fact you are on holiday on Facebook.
Just search on "Police warning on Facebook burglaries" or similar phrases. There are "loads" of hits.
Here is one as an example.

After all, you may know who YOUR Facebook friends are, but do you know who your Friends Facebook friends are, and who your friends friends Facebook friends are.

Some people on this topic said it was being paranoid to refuse to post photos on Facebook (or other social media) while you were on holiday as it showed your house was empty.
Well look at what happened to boxer Ricky Hatton yesterday:
"Watches worth £28,000 and a large number of 500 euro notes were stolen during a burglary at Ricky Hatton's home after he tweeted he was away"
