The next stage after toddler is little b*****.
lol @ Jackdaw. I was going to say that what I would call a 3 Y-O is unprintable.
That made me laugh Jackdaw although personally I found the toddler phase the worst.
Well said Jackdaw. I'd still call him/her a toddler up till they went to school at 5.
Ankle biters.
Do let us go all American and say pre-schooler
depends whether he's toddling (which suggests he's still walking a bit uncertainly). After that he's probably not doing anything specific you can name. Pre-schooler maybe?

* or she.
I don't like the term toddler, I just refer to children by their name.
These days poor little so(d)uls go to school at four
Bednobs, it'll be ok when they are in their late twenties!
I had a three year toddler in my house today - great grand nephew - my god he was everywhere - I gave him juice, sweeties, knew he was coming so gave him presents - spiderman. What did he do got my mop and washed my window for me with the mop. What is is what with all toddlers they love your bathroom - they must piddle half a dozen times. I don't like it as I have razor blades you know for my oxters etc. Now my other nephew is coming on Satur - please please please God he doesn't bring his kids - they are a total nightmare - thing I will string myself up when he goes. He is coming to fix tap of sink.
Youngest Grandson is four - he assures me he will be grown up on his fifth birthday in January.

So that's from he who knows.
Jenny, I am so jealous!
Love littlies and have far more patience with them than with older children
Well Daisy - the loveliest thing of them all - one is 3 and the other is 4 -they absolutely adored the dog - my dog is not used to little ones in the house so I was nervous re that - but my god they were 3 mates - they were kissing him - he was kissing them yuck - then they were upstairs he followed them - when they were outside mopping the window he was trying to help. that was the nicest part of the day. When I was handing out the sweeties - he had to get one too bless him. Wish I could get him used to amalgating with more children but as Judge Judy would say I never would leave dogs and children together. One of the kids has a dog of his own but he is massive I think they liked Maxie cos he was cuddly. Oh my he loved it and my confidence grew a little in that I knew he liked the kiddies. Only thing kids were only playing but they started to slap their hands in his face and whilst he didn't retaliate he was nervous so you do need to be around. My nephews were hanging together - unaware of how you need to be around children and animals. but it was a nice day - they will be back before Xmas - for their presents - I don't do pressies any more - just money . Sad Xmas for them without their dad but life goes on.
Awww jenny, get them presents. No child of 3 and 4 wants money :-(

I always call preschoolers "little 'uns" bednobs, makes 'em sound deceptively cuter than they actually are!
Boss ..in my experience !
Like B00...I call them little ones.

My best mate is one of 14 (she's 3rd oldest) after about child 6 we called them little ones.

Even greater expense, and lots of wonderful memories.
True, 1ozzy. We've no toddlers in our family and not likely to have any soon. I do miss Christmas without a littley.
