I have just been set free after serving 3 weeks punishment, my parents confined me to my room and my bedroom door was kept LOCKED with a key at all times, this is because I got caught shoplifting, I stole a small bottle of vodka so me and my friends could drink ( I am underage ) the shopkeeper called my parents and not the police, my parents said they don't want to see me go to jail so made my punishment as close to prison as possible I had to get up at 7am after a shower and breakfast I was locked back in my room for the rest of the day, I wasn't allowed ANY entertainment, NO tv NO phone etc, I was allowed 2 hours internet per day for good behavouir.
each day I had to write a 6 page essay, lights out and bed 9pm, it was a HORRIBLE punishment I was so so miserable I have lost 3 weeks of my school holiday.
my parents said a severe punishment is necessary to deter me from offending again
is this fair ?
WEll folks, she obviously has not learnt anything so the punishment has well and truly FAILED. If she had been made to apologize, pay back the shop owner through hard work, been shown either in real life or on line what drink can do to people and how small businesses are going under because of shoplifting then she may not have needed to come on here to moan!!
You asked this question before and my answer remains the same, you got exactly what you deserved. You are lucky that the shop owner didn't call the police on you. And if you were a child of mine I would be telling you to stop whinging or go back to your room.
Your parents lied to you. You would not have got a custodial sentence (gone to jail) for what you did. They sound like control freaks. I would go tell an adult what has happened to you, so your parents can get some help and maybe do a parenting course. It is not acceptable to imprison a child, and possibly illegal. I'm worried what they will do to you if there is a 'next time' : put you under the stairs for a week? Scary stuff for a child to deal with. Beggars belief some on here are actually praising your parents for their actions!
You got what you deserve - had I been punishing you, then you would not have had access to the internet either, just books.
Have you learnt anything - given your moaning I would say not.
You got off lightly, shoplifting is considered a serious offence. If the shopkeeper had called the police and you ended up in court you could have been fined/ jailed for six months. That's on items worth less then £200, over that figure anything up to seven years. You've done your three weeks, move on and no more five fingered discounts.
Without severe punishment you might continue to steal, become alcoholic & continue a life of crime. Prison would be more uncomfortable than you have suffered!
Write a 6 page essay on 'theft causes Loss of income to retailers and prices increase to customers to regain the loss'. Stop whingeing!
I think she is in America therefore they may have different rules and may have a borstal type system there.
Either way it is not abuse if she is old enough to steal booze then she is old enough to be punished!
hi its bigbecky,
nowone seems to have any sympathy, I lost my freedom and half of my school holidays, we had a heatwave while I was being punished, I had to watch my 2 older sisters and their friends sunbathing in our garden from my bedroom window and I could not go out because my bedroom door was locked I found this punishment VERY VERY tough I don't like being locked up its MISREABLE I think I should have been let off after 1 week don't you ?
