Last Christmas when my son was 14 he wanted (and got!) DVDs of The Italian Job (the original) and Enemy of The State starring Will Smith. I wouldn't really call them coming of age films, but he really enjoys them!
the breakfast club,ferris buellers day off,fright night,vamp,st elmos fire,mean creek......etc
oh i forgot licence to drive, dream a little dream, lucas, weird science and donnie darko
orange county is realy funny too.....oh and scrap vamp,it got nudity unless you dont mind.

donnie darko is an amazing film :D I would definately buy it for a 14 year old (and watch it myself first!) hehe x
This is going back a bit (1970s) but he would probably like American Graffiti, and possibly The Last Picture Show if he wants something a little more thoughtful.

thanx you lot xx
Try Empire Records! Its an amazing film set in a record store in america. Lack of money threatens closure and a bunch of teens (including rene zellweger and liv tyer) raise money to keep it open! Lots of famous people in it with an amazing sound track! Really worth a look. Good Luck!
