Child benefit rates?

I know that you get more money for your first child and then any subsequent children you get less for. What i want to know is, what will happen when my eldest son finishes his education and benefit for him ceases. Will the money for the second child go up to the eldest child rate or stay as it is? many thanks

The rate for your 2nd one goes up, mine did anyway.

oh thanks so much B00, i just wondered how it works! :-)
as your children grow up and you stop receiving child benefit for them the highest benefits then changes to the eldest child on you child benefit claim and this carries on until you have no children to receive child benefit. your child benefit will carry on though if your children stay in full time education until they are 19 hope this helps

If yir son remains in non-advanced education (not above A-level standard) Child Benefit can be paid until he reaches age 20.
