i visited my doctor as i have a physical health problem and my housing is not suitable (i am on waiting list to be re-housed as im in 1bed flat with baby and partner) i enquired if i could get a letter regarding my health for my housing assoc to help with my re-housing, she said they would charge 55. my problem has now become emotional as well as physical and i am suffering from anxiousness and i cannot sleep. somedays im getting to the point that i cant face going out or im in tears before i get out, does anyone know if they are able to waive this fee or have a right to charge 55.00

Docs do and can charge for letters for some things but 55 seems very expensive.Could you speak to the practice manager and check if it is 55 .
they have a right to charge what they want for extras (like letters) I agree that 55 quid seems expensive though. You have to think ... what good is a letter from your doc saying you cant go out of the house going to do in your bid to be rehoused? What is unsuitable about your accomodation at the moment? and how will moving help your health problem Those are things you need to consider before spending 55 pounds

they are obliged to show you your medcial record if you ask - could you just copy them and write your own letter with them as evidence...?
i think you have to apply to see your medical records and i also think there is a charge with that too
Hi suzanneb sorry to hear about your difficulties. I'm not sure about the doctor's fee but why not approach your health visitor, given you have a baby she may be able to talk to the doctor on your behalf, your welfare is vital when you have a child to care for and she may be more sympathetic. Hope you find some help, take care.
I work in a GP practice and 55 is way too much, we only charge about 10 - 15 at most.

Your surgery would also probably charge you for copies of your records which could be as much as 50!!!!

It might be worth speaking to the Practice Manager and asking if the fee could be waived or reduced, you don't know if you don't ask!!

Hope that helps.
