As someone with a very unusual first name I beg of you not to call your child something too unusual. The child will want people to be able to pronounce and spell it correctly, or they will go through their whole life spelling out their name to everyone they meet or speak to on the phone. I know, I have to do it. I also can't bear it when people give their child a name that people know, but spell it differently, like Amii instead of Amy or Cait instead of Kate. It might seem cute and sweet at the time, but believe you me it gets very annoying when you are an adult to still be spelling your name, or getting letters (and even birthday cards) with your name spelt wrong.
Sometimes though you don't know the babies name until you meet it! My sister-in-law had her babys name all sorted, until the baby was born. Then she realised that the baby didn't look like it suited the name she'd chosen beforehand, so she changed it.
