Your question doesn't sound at all boring - knowing how to sew is a really useful skill ! I know that you mention you are looking for websites but have you thought of initially taking a class in say dressmaking or soft furnishings - my local authority runs day and evening classes (very low fees, something like 2.60 per hour, much less for those on benefits). They usually are for two hours a week in term time only and normally the sewing machines are provided, you would just have to bring other materials with you (or you can often buy them off the tutor). You get to meet other people with a similar interest as well.
