16yr old sister going clubbing
6 Answers
hi. i am asbsolutly furious with my family, mostly my mum and my little sister, i am 26 my sister has just turned 16 in august, well the thing is my sister has started going out drinking in pubs and going clubbing in her home town and also 30 miles away, she goes with freinds who are the same age as her and a year or 2 older, and my mum is encouraging her to do so. she is only 16 and still at school (6th form) she has plans of being an interior designer but is more interested in partying, is there anything i can do to make her and my mum see sense, she should be concerntrating on school and going out when it is legal for her to do so. what shall i do? from a very concerned big sister

I was pubbing and clubbing at age 14 and nothing anyone said to me made any difference, the only thing that would have stopped me would have been being unable to get past the doormen.

I used to get the train into town (paying half fare as I was 13!!! I took my birth certificate) and then promptly went into "Follies" nightclub for over 18's! I always looked older than my age.
My parents however, didn't have a clue but when I told them years later, they were ok about it!
That was late 70's though and there wasn't the same drink culture back then..infact I can't recall drinking any great amounts..it was more like a social outing, meeting pals etc.
I can understand your concerns ginger and your Mum is being naive at the least.
What you do not say in your question is whether your sis is out during the week, or is it just Fri and/or Sat? Is it interfering with her school work? Is she coming home plastered at 4am?
It is technically illegal but apart from my fabulous, sensible husband I know not of any other person at 16 yrs, who hadn't been in a pub/nightclub!

I think it's nice that you're so concerned.
I started clubbing at 16 too but that was a while ago now and think my parents would feel differently about it now - I understand your concerns and think maybe you need to explain your concerns to your Mum - calmly explain what your worried about (binge drinking, her getting in to trouble, keeping safe getting home etc I would imagine). If need be, show her some stats to back up why your concerned.
I'm no angel, I was clubbing at that age and binge drinking but I completely understand why you would feel concerned about your little sis doing it these days.

hi ginger my sister is 16 and goes out round manchester etc. have spoke to my dad about it and he doesnt see the problem. he takes her and her friends to where they going and she makes her own way home in early hours of morning. shes been doing this since she was 15. my family dont have a problem with it but i do. she is only slightly built and if some bloke came onto her well i dread what would happen. she to is at 6th form now but goes out most nights. they have always thought it ok to come home drunk and never told her off at all. ive expressed my views and thats all i can do.
