What can we do???
My dear wife keeps our house spotlessly clean and always has since the day I met her,The problem is Our daughter in law is really dirty she never does any house work the carpets smell,the toilet is really stained, The kitchen is a disgrace & on top of all that they are expecting thier first child soon,they are not short of a few bob and both have good jobs,
after a recent visit both my wife and I had to have a shower and put our clothes in the washing machine after we arrived home because they smelt terrible,What we cant understand is my wifes son does,nt seem bothered about it, what can we do??
we are not on our own in thinking there home is a hovel other people have passed remarks also.

I would love a spotless home, with everything in it's place. Unfortunately, having a boyfriend who has never had to do anything in the home and doesn't know how to put things in the bin, makes it very difficult.
It's very disheartening having to spend 3 hours actually tidying up, before I can even start cleaning.

Velvetee:- My god your getting me worried, my fella is talking of moving in and he is a right messy so n so! Although in saying that when hes here and leaves things lying about, such as banana skins and saucepans with all porridge stuck in it, I tell him straight away! Got to get the training in now before its too late! lol

Our house isn't very clean. I work my ass off in my day job, put in extra hours in the evenings sometimes weekends, when I'm not working I am spending quality time with my young daughter. I also have a lazy husband - much like Velvetee's fella, who does sweet FA and on rare occasions of trying just makes it worse. There are not enough hours in the day for me to make my house look like a spotless showhome.
Parts of my house are falling to bits but through lack of money and time so they'll have to stay like that for now. I do what I can in the time I have and that's all I can do. I've seen family sniffing about passing judgement. I've had offensive comments off my husband's grandmother whom I would have shot back an earful if she wasn't so old and bonkers (directed at me, not my other half - glad to see equality in action!). Other family have made 'jokes' also. It's downright offensive.
Not everyone has the time to make their houses clean, it's not a top priority for most people. And if all I had to occupy my time was cleaning my house so other people didn't stick their noses up at me, it would be a dull existence indeed.

Whats right for one is not right for another, and i think everyone else has made a good argument about leaving well out of this one, and thats its their life
however maybe a subtly non offensive way to mention that its not exactly a good environment for a young child with little immune system?
other then that the only thing you can do is not go round, at the end of the day it IS their life not yours
