and then the old boy went in to a care home ..
he fell over broke his collar bone ..was left
for 3 days with no medical attention , then
when he was sorted , I had a meeting with the
manager I said he could get pneamonia ..
i was told no way ..he's now in hospital and
very poorly and has pneamonia ...I thought
I did the right reseach for a local care home ...
so don't believe what you are told ..and you see ..
the hospital wanted to know how he was so bruised ..
how do i know ?

So they didn't take any notice of your warnings which turned out to be right.

I'd ask for an urgent meeting with the care home manager and ask for your concerns to be addressed.

Might need a change of care home, maybe one with more nursing care.

Could the bruising have been from the broken collar bone or is there more unexplained bruising?

and no way would they lie on a floor for 3 days

He is in a care home and he had a fall, but
no body called the GP or Paramedics for 3
days ..he now has pneamonia and is in
hospital on an iv drip and anti biotics ..the
manager said they check the person over and if
they seem ok they just let them get over it ..

His general care is superb ..it's the medical
bit that's not correct ...

The duty of care lies with the home...it would seem to me that they should have called a doctor in automatically. particularly for an elderly person whose bones are more fragile.
if you have any problems with the care provided...or any other aspect of the homes performance, go to CSCI.....that is the governing body that oversees and inspects care homes.

I think you did Pasta but i'm worried that they
could make him move homes as he's happy
there and it would be traumatic for him to have
to uproot ..the staff are very good it's just the
management side ..thanks anyway ...

Moving him would be a last resort.....and CSCI would not have anything to do with that. They would just make sure the home was following guidelines. This would be for the benefit of ALL the residents.

I contacted the CSCI about a care home I moved my mother from. They never investigated and never came back to me!

Fortunately my mother is in a wonderful care home now. She recently had a fall at night and had no apparent injuries. However, the following morning she complained of a pain in her ribs and a doctor was called immediately.

Care homes can be really good if the management is good and appalling if the management is poor. Personally, I would move someone from a care home with poor management - it can be traumatic for the elderly to be moved but I would never leave anyone in a care home that fails in its duty of care when it comes to medical matters.

from the hospital and he's not responding to
the antibiotics ,he's very poorly .....

Thanks for posting again theonlyone. My mother (89) is not responding to antibiotics at the moment and can't get rid of a chest infection. It's such a worry. Her fall seemed to start off a lot of other problems. She is lucky with her care home.

I hope things get better for this gentleman. Is he a close friend or relation. I haven't seen any other post

He is a very dear friend of the family ..
we have known him for years ..just a nice
man ..and an old soldier , a Burma veteran ...
and I was his carer until he went in to a care home ...
so we are going to pray he recovers ...

No fun getting old is it. Social Services care is just not there any more (it's only a token now) and good care homes are hard to find. Most carers are lovely and well meaning people - it's the whole system that's wrong.

My mother spent two months in a geriatric ward - it opened my eyes to how the elderly are treated!!

Sincere wishes for his recovery. You obviously are still there for him.

My Ma in law has dementia and lives on her
own ..but the bro in law and wife go to see
her every day ..but we worry that she might
go on the bus one day to where ever ..and
she's also very deaf ...so it's all a bit of a
nightmare ..and it's Christmas !!
