paedophiles and the threat
33 Answers
ok so I am soon to be a father and got into the subject of paedofiles and protecting your children. i personally feel that if you drink too much (without causing a crime) you can go get help. if you are mentally ill (which pedos are) you can go get help. you can seek help pretty much for anything apart from having paedofile thoughts. this must be to be due to how much the general public hates and acts on people like this.
does this mean that if paedofiles could say visit a pedos anonymous and get some treatment (if any) then this would reduce the problem? and may even reduce the deaths of some children?
i personally have no time or compassion for anyone that has committed an offence but would be willing for some of my tax money go into a fund to helping people who are at the stage of contemplating paedophilia. what do you think?

This charity gives support and therapy to potential child abusers.

evolution cant really stop the protective instinct that a parent will feel towards their child.
there will always be such feelings towards anyone that abuses or hurts children.
I can see what you mean with your post and yes, it would be great if there was a way of helping these obviously sick people from carrying out the atrocities we hear about every day.
But as said already, do you really think that someone with such thoughts will go and see their GP?

Castration of offenders does have some very good figures to back it up and I think it's currently under consideration.
However contrary to what you may think it does Not have a 100% success rate. It's mostly in the 90s
if you're interested there's some interesting stuff on it here:

This would have to be done along the lines of a voluntary system probably along with a reduction in sentence.
It can not be used as a punishment

Beaty:
Your question posed the scenario of those "contemplating paedophilia", whatever that means?
Have you ever, for example, heard of an offence called "Threats To Kill"? It can, in certain circumstances, carry a life sentence. (usually carries 10 years).
I'd suggest that those "contemplating paedophilia" fall into a similar category, for as far as I'm concerned the planned defilement of a child is no different: a life would be ruined forever.
And given the fact that the authorities would at some point release a convicted paedophile back amongst the unsuspecting public, my solution for the enforced removal of the paedo's sexual organs would at least ensure that they could not re-offend.
Having some well meaning shrinks, social workers and probation officers telling them not to do it again is akin to waving a red rag at a bull and in no way protects any vulnerable would-be-victim from the predatory instincts of a subhuman who still has the "tools"(no pun!) with which to do the job (again and again) ad infinitum.
The victim's rights must always supercede those of the offender, which is all too often not the case in this country.

paraffin, i get what you mean, but some mums suffering from post natal depression have been known to have thoughts of harming a child (rare but does happen). would you have those women locked away for such a thing, or do you agree that they receive care and therapy and whatever else needed to help them?
i have to say though, i have no idea if thoughts of abusing children is in any way like the chemical and hormone imbalance that causes PND.
