birthday cards

Are birthday cards becoming a thing of the past? It's my birthday today and I have had far, far less cards than usual, but I have had countless texts and messages on facebook ... but you can't put those on the mantlepiece .. is anyone else mourning the passing of the humble greetings card?

I think people are just becoming lazier. Can you believe I received text messages and emails as RSVPs to my wedding?! Society is becoming less considerate in my opinion. Opening cards is one of life's pleasures and I hope it is never abandoned.

Thanks everyone!!! Yeay, lots of happy birthdays!!! I hope people still send cards for years and years to come, but you are all right, its dwindling it seems .... .and yes, the postage is expensive and yes, a bottle of wine is nicer!!! Since I posted this earlier, two more cards were hand delivered as was a beautiful bouquet from a friend ... so my faith is restored ... don't get me wrong, the texts, facebook messages are still lovely, but it's the child me that loves opening envelopes ... now there's a thoughts ... a nice friendly letter ... handwritten... on lovely notepaper ... when was the last time you got one of those??

Happy birthday for yesterday anyway! (Another greeting you can't put on your mantlepiece I'm afraid!).
Like you I mourn the passing of the paper card, but when you go into some shops and find you have to pay nearly 2 for a card, and then a hefty postage fee on top, it's hardly surprising that people are opting for the modern cheap techie alternatives. I'm sometimes guilty of sending e-mail birthday greetings to friends myself, but always send cards to family members, and to the elderly friends I have.
