We were in Chiquitos last week with our 5yr old daughter and 5 week old son and when ordering the drinks we asked for a coke for our daughter. The waitress noticed the baby, looked at him then said "Is it just one kid's drink you want"?! I mean What The Funicular? He's 5 weeks old! It did make us laugh though imagining him guzzling coke in his bottle, I only let my daughter have it as a special treat! What dumb things have people said to you?

I took my daughter to the doctors one time she was ill, and an old woman came up to us in the waiting room to tell me my daughter didn't look very well....

The poor lass was happen on commission - sell more drinks per table, get 0.3p more. Desperation does funny things to people.
A total stranger at a place of work I had just started at, on finidng I had a baby, said that the child would quite categorically grow up delinquent because I was at work and not in the kitchen at home bakin' cookies, or whatever.
Oddly enough, she's now a psychologist.......
ha ha that's really funny! Some people just don't think before they open their mouths do they (me included, sometimes!) I was in a pub having a meal when Nancy was tiny, only about 3 months old, and the waiter asked if we'd like to see the children's menu?!!!

How's Luke getting on now? (love that name BTW, it's my OH's name - do you get sick of hearing that kind of thing? I got fed up of meeting people who's granny was/is called Nancy!!)

I was at the dentist and as I was breastfeeding my little one I took him with me rather than leave him with Dad. He was only a few weeks old, the dentist was up the stairs and had no room for a buggy so i carried him up and laid him in the only available space on the floor on his sheepskin. The space happened to be behind me so when I was in the chair I couldn't see him. As the young female dentist was examining my teeth she kept on glancing anxiously over to where my son was lying. This was getting me quite worried so when I had the opportunity to speak, I asked her if everything was okay, she said "fine I think, I am just worried in case he crawls over here"! The same dentist asked my other son - 13 months old - if he had any problems with his teeth - he could just about manage "Mum" or "cat" at the time.

I guess she hadn't been around many children.

Hi k8bailey, Luke is getting on fine thanks for asking. He is 6 weeks tomorrow and over the last few days I have seen such a change in him. He is beginning to settle himself to sleep on a night, he goes to bed at 8pm meaning we can enjoy our evenings in between putting the dummy back in and you can now put him down and he will happily look around and smile! This might not sound like much but last week at this time I was at the end of my tether with him thinking things will never get easier! Hope you and your family are well.
When my son was a baby, the cashier in the supermarket asked if my baby was a girl or boy - when I replied that he was a boy, she stared at him and asked "are you sure?" !!!!!!!!!
Hiya tigwig

when my eldest was about 18 months old dressed in pink with pigtails and someone asked how old is your son!!!!!
Hiya zzxxee xx
hi yogi x
My daughters often got mistaken for boys too, but my 5 yr old was most indignant the time it happened when she was wearing a skirt.
That's good news Tigwig, I'm glad things are beginning to get easier so that you can enjoy him without being constantly stressed and knackered! Those first smiles come at just the right time don't they - just when you think you can't go on, and that you're doing everything wrong! :)

I love all these stories - I was out for a walk with Nancy in the summer she would've been about 14 months and as we needed to cross the road I lifted her up to push the button and explained to her that now we needed to wait for the green man, so we would know it was safe to cross, the old lady next to us at the crossing looked at me dissaprovingly, and said that my daughter was a bit young to have all of that explained to her!! I wish I'd told her that eavesdropping is rude, but actually I was just too gobsmacked to say anything.

My other favourite is when strangers say hello to Nancy, and then talk to me about teaching her not to talk to strangers!!
I have inherited two daughters from my wife's first marriage and when the then-youngest (we have another one now) was about three, she was out shoping with her mum. Kerri had white-blonde hair, the white you see albinos have, and an irate woman stopped my wife to castigate her for "... dyeing the hair of a child at that age ..." and advising that it was outrageous! I'm sure my wife would agree, which is why she would never consider such a thing!
I am an older mum 46 and hubby 52 we were on a plane home from spain with our 5yrold and 18month old and the air hostess made a point of coming up to us and telling us how we could heat up baby food and bottles and let our 18month old toddler up and down the aisle .she said she would find an activity book for our 5yrold if i didnt have anything with us to amuse her, iwas thinking to myself i we do know how to look after our kids we dont need to be told!!!and then she said very loudly AND LAST OF ALL I WOULD LIKE TO CONGRATULATE YOU ON BRINGING YOUR GRANDCHILDREN ALL THIS WAY WITH OUT THERE PARENTS AND MAKING SUCH A GOOD JOB OF IT!!! WELL I JUST COLLAPSED WITH LAUGHTER AND MY 5 YROLD SAID WHATS THE LADY TALKING ABOUT MUMMY.I wish people wouldnt assume and just because we are older parents judge us and say you must be mad!!
