what do you think?
When do you think a child should stop being breast fed?

After reading the article, it seems the little boy isn't relying on the milk for sustinance - but as a treat.
Personally I think it's time to stop.

lol - sustenance - oops
Each to their own....but I think it's time to stop when your periods return. That's when your body is ready for another baby.

The longest I breast fed for was 15 months.
I watched something like this on TV except he was about 7 years old, it made me cringe, the child just went to his mother and helped himself when he felt like it. I think it should stop when they start eating solids,
Noooooooooo Gran...they recommend at least a year.
it was time to stop a long time ago.
the first 6-12 months should be maximum in my opinion.
Well in the league of gentlemen it seems never to old to have some bitty

bitty
That's Little Britain...
Bu66er what happens if you want to go to work before then,t I lasted 6 months and I was well fed up of it by then.
Sorry crisgal but I just could not resist that one lol
Err yes ummmm
You said 'league of gentlemen'....anyway, who cares...

Gran....I was lucky enough to work from home but I enjoyed the experience. Couldn't do it for 5 years though.
I get confused sometimes ummm
I think this is disgusting and is clearly being done for the sad mothers pleasure who can't have much other love and satisfaction in her life. You have to feel sorry for the child as he won't have known anything else.
Mind you, if I'm perfectly honest I couldn't bear the thought of feeding either of my babies, I know that is why women have breasts but it makes me cringe and I couldn't bear to let my baby suck on my nipples (not when hubby did before ha ha).
Each to their own, I suppose.
Some of us guys never tire of it tho lol

i'm with you tigwig - I thought i was the only one who felt that way!
I interviewed a woman at work, and a child aged about 4 just wandered over, whipped up her top and helped himself. I was really shocked.

I assume it was her child!
LOL @ Sara! I worked with a woman who still fed her 4-year-old - we couldn't agree with her. Weaning is weaning in my book....
I think five is a bit old but I can fully understand how it happens. I fed my first baby girl till she was two. I had to wean her because I was three months pregnant with twins! and my body just couldn't cope. Then I exclusively fed my twin girls for 18months, no formula..not a drop...I have no idea how I managed it but I just did. I never thought i'd be 'one of those women' feeding a toddler or two for that matter but it has been one of the most amazing experiences of my life. The bond is incredible but I'm also very glad to have my body back!!!
Why even have that question? Think about it - you're talking about milk from a parent to a child, and although I freely admit that I find it odd, why does society (me included) find it odd? Are we so uncomfortable with our bodies and their functions?
i think the revulsion and 'ewww' attitudes of the poster an some of the replies says rather more about you than the mother in question, and not in a positive way.
the "i just think its wrong" attitude is simply not a good enough reason for anything.

i agree it may seem odd to see...but whose fault is that? a society that has deemed breastfeeding as something to be hidden for many years...
theres seems to be something of a notion that breastfeeding is something mother and child must endure...

as has been said, the milk exists and is produced for the child for as long as its wanted - otherwise it would stop naturally...and the mother would have no choice

it would probably be better for the child to have it from a cup though in order to get more used to drinking rather than sucking.
