Whilst whsmith and the other book stores have a brilliant selection, they can be expensive for individual books. If you know what it is you are looking for then it is worth shopping around. Poundstretcher used to do some lovely books for toddlers as well.
The library.
The Works do some lovely picture books and very good deals on them too! But yes would agree with Boo, support your local library; they'll probably have story sessions as well.
