wow how fabulous! God you're so lucky, you have a grown up sister, and maybe nephews and nieces!! find out all you can, I can look her up if you want,
agree with Dotty - what a great thing to happen to you - life's full of surprises hey?

Dotty, my whole family is a mess and half of them aren't talking to each other. Hopefully she'll want to know. That would be great if you could look her up! Half of me is mad at him for hiding this secret, the other half is excited about getting to know this part of my family!
If he hasn't told you anything much about her except her birth name and year I could perhaps find that and then see if she married (email me on [email protected] when you feel ready)
I answered your other post - you didn't give much detail so I wasn't sure how you felt. Something similar happened to a friend of mine. Do you think your half-sister knows about you? She too might be in complete oblivion. Why did your dad not say before, how come he told you now?

I have her birth name and year of birth dotty, I also know where she was born. Thank you so much, I really do appreciate it so very much.

I don't think she would know boxtops as my Dad left just after she was born. Not sure how I feel really. I've not spoken to my Dad in 10 years, not sure if he is just trying to come clean about everything now that we are trying to start afresh
7 years ago I found 2 half-sisters for my mum, both considerably younger than she is.
She also now has 2 nephews and 4 nieces, 3 great nieces and 2 great nephews
I am the eldest of my grandfathers 7 grandchildren.

It has been sad, at times, but on the whole, I think my Mum is glad that they exist, andglad that she has them in her life.
Towards the end of last year I discovered I had a sister I'd not known about. We've met a lot of time, phone, and write. But we live a good distance apart.
Hope you get on well with her.
I've just been reunited with a family member from long ago. It's wonderful!! Good luck.
i found out i had a half brother 5 years back but he was adopted by his step dad
i would like to find out about him but dad is not forthcoming with any info :(
i hope your journey will turn out to be a joyus one caj1 xxxx
In some ways, its awful for you as you feel you have been betrayed by your Dad, but could be a whole new family for you. Hope everything goes ok
It happens

A friend of mine had a woman knock on her door and say "You don't know me but I'm your half sister"

They're really good friends now

It seems like a common thing to happen, I still don't know how I feel about it lol! I think I will take it slowly and a step at a time after a long hard think over christmas.
I found out I had a half sister when I was about 28 or so (I'm now 56). She lives in Italy and is married with 3 children. We met at my half brother's house (she is his full sister but he didn't know about her either). It was a very nice day, but she went back to Italy and I resumed my life as it was. I had never had either of them in my life before and wan't that bothered about having them in my life later. My half brither only lives about 5 miles away but I never see him. That sounds REALLY cold but that's the way it is. I know some people discover relatives they didn't know they had and they get really close, so good luck if that's what you want, but also be prepared that you won't feel that way.
Last year my family discovered that my Grandma had a daughter before she met my Grandad and was made to give her up for adoption at birth. She tracked down one of my Aunties and they all met and although I don't think they have become overly close but they do keep in touch, they are all very happy they know about each other and found out before it was too late.

You're right horseshoes, I guess she is someone I don't know and might not welcome me. She might resent the fact my Dad brought me up (allbeit badly) and not her. I don't know, the more I think about it, the more I think just leave it. I'm not ready to be rejected by more people and made to feel crappier. I need to weigh up the emotional risks and see what I think.

Milly, that story and others above just goes to show that sometimes it does work :o)
