I don't think she would know boxtops as my Dad left just after she was born. Not sure how I feel really. I've not spoken to my Dad in 10 years, not sure if he is just trying to come clean about everything now that we are trying to start afresh

7 years ago I found 2 half-sisters for my mum, both considerably younger than she is.
She also now has 2 nephews and 4 nieces, 3 great nieces and 2 great nephews
I am the eldest of my grandfathers 7 grandchildren.
It has been sad, at times, but on the whole, I think my Mum is glad that they exist, andglad that she has them in her life.

I found out I had a half sister when I was about 28 or so (I'm now 56). She lives in Italy and is married with 3 children. We met at my half brother's house (she is his full sister but he didn't know about her either). It was a very nice day, but she went back to Italy and I resumed my life as it was. I had never had either of them in my life before and wan't that bothered about having them in my life later. My half brither only lives about 5 miles away but I never see him. That sounds REALLY cold but that's the way it is. I know some people discover relatives they didn't know they had and they get really close, so good luck if that's what you want, but also be prepared that you won't feel that way.
Last year my family discovered that my Grandma had a daughter before she met my Grandad and was made to give her up for adoption at birth. She tracked down one of my Aunties and they all met and although I don't think they have become overly close but they do keep in touch, they are all very happy they know about each other and found out before it was too late.
You're right horseshoes, I guess she is someone I don't know and might not welcome me. She might resent the fact my Dad brought me up (allbeit badly) and not her. I don't know, the more I think about it, the more I think just leave it. I'm not ready to be rejected by more people and made to feel crappier. I need to weigh up the emotional risks and see what I think.
Milly, that story and others above just goes to show that sometimes it does work :o)
