You can carry on getting your State Pension while you are in hospital. Any additional pension (SERPS or second state pension) you get is also not affected by a hospital stay.

You should notify ALL changes immediately - or if you are unable to get someone to act and do it on your behalf....you just never know...
And never assume hospital will tell DWP as its not really their responsibility. They used to years ago but are probably run off their feet now - waiting time targets etc etc
