Keeping champagne
How long will an unopened bottle of champagne stay good? I'm talking the 30-40 sort. If I buy some now, will it still be fine in 6 months' time, pse?

Champagne does have a tendency to lose its fizz if you keep it for too long, and the fresh looking colour and the taste also suffer.
Sometimes, it will last for years, as mrs_o has found. But last Bank Holiday, we had some friends over and opened a bottle of 1962 vintage champagne. After one taste, we tipped the bottle out on the lawn. It was ghastly. Flat and sour.
Then we opened some young Prosecco, and it was wonderful. Vibrant, bubbly and fruity. Perfect for a warm afternoon (so not needed today then!!)

It will keep for as long as you seem to want it to.
But,what a price to pay for something which isn't likely to taste anything better than other sparklers which are made by the same method as champagne.....Sparkling Vouvray perhaps or even a vintage Cava,
Champagne is over-rated and pricey. I would even go so far as saying that it is a somewhat snobbish drink we have been led to believe is superior because of its high price.......Ron

Honestly, I am trying to be helpful; but I do get annoyed about the high prices of classified French wines: especially Champagne. Consequently, for some furher advice from other ABers, I suggest that you click the following:-
