Living on my own I tend to buy things in small quantities, not least because I don't want them to go off before I've used them. Consequently I buy either a one pint or a two pint bottle of milk, two pints normally seeing me comfortably through the week. So I pay either 50p per pint or 90p for two pints. No problem.
A friend told me that at Iceland I could get 4 pints for £1. Damn good bargain, except that I would not normally use 4 pints in a week. Then I got to thinking; even if I didn't use all of it the most I could lose is 10p, so I've started buying the 4 pint bottles. The strange thing is that Iceland sell 6 pint bottles at £2.38. So some people must buy 6 pints for more than they would pay for 8 pints if they bought two 4 pint bottles. I must hover around the milk counter and watch next time I'm in.

I bet the Sweaties are laughing tonight, watching the Dutch and the Yorkies take all the flak while they get off scot-free.
I don't know why but semi skimmed milk is much nicer after freezing.

You can freeze milk in smaller portions so it defrosts quicker, or even in ice cube trays.
I went to school in Yorkshire, micmak....nothing wrong with a bit of regional stereotyping (as long as it isn't serious) and you can take the pizz out of your own area.....enough written by me about the Cornish down here.
Mike, Who are the sweaties?
...and I've been to the Netherlands many times and never found the locals mean- in fact, lovely people.
I don't freeze milk usually but I made a cock-up with the shopping one time and had three x 4 pints in the fridge and got a further 4 delivered so there was a bit of a milk glut going on (even we can't use 28 pints of milk that quickly).

Rhyming slang - Sweaty socks - Jocks.
Where did you go to school DT. I have never been to Cornwall. Sadly.
My daughter had two Dutch pen pals (16yr olds) come over to stay for 5 days. After a long tireing journey I had a bath ready, NO, didn't want a bath or shower in fact they were with us for 5 days & never had a shower or bath in that time.
They also used to get up in the night & raid the fridge.
So my opinion of Dutch people isn't a good one.

jem
I lived there for five years and they are really tight........tighter than a virgi...well I cant say it or I will be suspended
Yorkshire is a large county DT. Where did you go to schoo?
west side.....
Why dont you buy long life milk Mike . I get Sainsburys skimmed .6 Litres for four quid .
It's as good as fresh.

As for the Dutch ,lovely people .Both my children were born there and I lived there for several years .Happy days .
shame micmak - but dont come in August as the county is heaving.... May/June/eptember are nice and we do have some stunning scenery to see and plenty of art, history etc, just depends on what you like......
My freezer isalready overflowing with food because I cannot buy stuff in small quantities. Hate waste and throwing food away.

UHT milk? God forbid. Some people of my age and locality will remember the bottles of Puroh. Foul-tasting stuff!
I can't tell any difference from fresh .It's fine in tea .Good on cereals etc and Ok for cooking.
I used to get fresh from the mikman but it's too expensive these days . And I'm blowed if I'm going to pay for milk that goes off before I've used it up .
I live in W Y. DT why won't you be more specific?
Long life milk? Prefer to drink water and black coffee! Remember sterilised milk?
