Living on my own I tend to buy things in small quantities, not least because I don't want them to go off before I've used them. Consequently I buy either a one pint or a two pint bottle of milk, two pints normally seeing me comfortably through the week. So I pay either 50p per pint or 90p for two pints. No problem.
A friend told me that at Iceland I could get 4 pints for £1. Damn good bargain, except that I would not normally use 4 pints in a week. Then I got to thinking; even if I didn't use all of it the most I could lose is 10p, so I've started buying the 4 pint bottles. The strange thing is that Iceland sell 6 pint bottles at £2.38. So some people must buy 6 pints for more than they would pay for 8 pints if they bought two 4 pint bottles. I must hover around the milk counter and watch next time I'm in.

Ha.ha ..I used to love sterilised milk :)
Question Author
Sterilised milk was sold up here under the brand name of Puroh, see my previous answer. As a child I couldn't abide it and would go without a cup of tea or cornflakes rather than have that disgusting stuff.
Ooh .that little cap on the bottle that you used to have to prise off with a bottle opener .Ever so delish on cornflakes .I loved it as a child .
It's all a matter of taste really .
I can't understand why people drink that soya stuff .That has to be the pits of the milk world :)
I used to love a glass of ice cold full cream milk but I'm afraid my digestive thinks otherwise these days .
I was born in London, my wife born in Pontefract. We moved to W Y in 1985. We are now in our 60's. We would love to move but property up here is a lot cheaper than most places. So find me a house and i wold be off lke a shot.

I must confess an old liking for Nestlé's condensed sweetened milk. Many a time my tea consisted of a crust of bread covered in that plus a liberal sprinkling of sugar.

Off to bed DT. still no proper answers?
To stray back to the original subject of odd pricing, either Tesco or Morrisons, a few weeks ago had cans of tuna on offer, a pack of 4 was £4.75 and 2 packs of 4 were £4.50! The person I queried this with couldn't understand the reason I asked! So it must have been Dereham Tesco I think!
Nope and I dont know how I can frame a clue for you except well known for its rugby.....

Best not to query it in case someone gets wise. Just take advantage.
every time i pass farmfoods they are advertising 2 4pt milk for £1.50

I could never bring myself to go through the door of Farmfoods. Ricky Tomlinson has turned me right off!
i bought a farmfoods ready meal once.... years later i can still taste the foulness of it.... never ever again.....
cc1, I also went to Tesco and a 2 litre walls ice cream this week was £3.87 for 1 or you could have 2 for £3. I had to ask before buying too as I thought maybe a mistake and I would get charged more at the till, but no it was right.
i found something similar at morrisons. i was buying some cheap kitchen paper towels, morrisons own, there was a pack of for £1.80 and right nect to it a pack of 6 for £4.20. i also wondered whether anyone would just pick up the 6 pack assuming it would be cheaper. a few weeks later i noticed they'd reduced the 6 pack to £3.50 so i guess not many fell for it.
agh, pack of 3 for £1.80
