Tuna sandwiches

I make tuna sandwiches (when tuna is on offer) with chopped cucumber and salad cream but I am pretty sure that my gran and mam just did them with salt, pepper and vinegar. Does this sound right? Thanks

I'm not so sure. It actually sounds really nice, I like anything that's peppery, but I'm not sure how it would stay together? I use salad cream too. Hate mayo in them!
When we made them at work, we used mayonnaise - I would have thought that salad cream was too strong for tuna

I seem to remember that they were quite dry - don't think the kids will go for them though (have to make them two rounds each when I do them as they are a favourite with them all).

Sorry all, you weren't there just now! Kids love them with loads of salad cream - go down a storm when one of them has a birthday party too (so lots of kids must like them, not just mine).
I don't buy tuna all that often, either. Two reason: the kids hate it, and it's expensive. The next time I do though, I'll be giving the salad cream a miss. It sounds lush!
With regards to the salad cream thing, that's what I use for making both tuna and egg sandwiches. I think it tastes much better! :-)
My OH loves Tuna sandwiches with vinegar and lots of black pepper, I hate Tuna, even the smell of it makes me gag!..........He makes his own sandwiches!...............

Hi Flip - I use tuna to make fishcakes too. Just potatoes, boiled with a finely (ish) chopped onion, mix in an egg and some dried parsely and loads of (on offer) tuna. Shape (roughly) and dust with seasoned flour and lightly fry until golden brown. Serve with loads of vinegar and tomato sauce (optional!).

On holiday in Portugal we had the most DIVINE tuna toasties - they had onion, tomato and mayonnaise in too - served hot of course. They didn't look at all like the toasted sandwiches we do here in sandwich toasters, as the edges weren't sealed. Does anyone know of a special sandwich toaster which will do this - its obviously made in a machine as it had the diagonal grill marks on the outside of the toast and olive oil too - very yummy, I now get withdrawal symptoms for them!

Hi Ann - maybe it was a version of a sandwich press thing (I've got one, does crispy rosaries but doesn't seal the edges - mine doesn't have the griddle marks though).

Ta Sher - looks good! I see its out of stock, so must mean its popular, will check it on Ebay ta. Just as long as it doesn't seal the edges and looks just like a hot sandwich made out of toast?
