I have been given, yes given, a Big bottle of Glenfiddich single malt whisky and I know it's probably sacrilege to add ice or any kind of other liquid, but how do I drink it?...lying down and sips or what? Ta Muchly.
I suppose whisky purists would say drink it straight and at room temperature. I would say drink it any way you like though. (Americans like it on the rocks)
However, if an older, stronger one, Lady A is right, a wee nip of the H2O (not tap, unless your water is spring water, as that that has a smidge too much FL in it).
Many Thanks All...DT (and I hope I don't get 'em) you paint a nice word picture...and 237SJ, as I don't live near any mountains or cliffs, on the rocks aint an option...but it aint half strong innit and though I only drink filtered water, I'd shy from adding that, so I'll take DT's advice and just smoooooth it down!...and enjoy it I will!
I like to drink mine with dry ginger and ice, the OH likes his with a drop of water, warm water if he's not feeling too well (but I think that is and excuse).
Seriously, try just a drop of water in it, woodelf. (Don't drown the miller as my old Dad used to say.)
It really does improve it and takes just a tiny bit of the oooohhhh off it..
It is one of the few malts I have to drink with lemonade. I don't really like it so whenever anyone buys it for me I smile politely and say thank you whilst secretly wishing they had bought a different one.
not really a whisky drinker but I reckon you should drink it any way you like. I would start with water at room temperature, no more than 50-50 mix. If you don't like that try a small amount of lemonade.
If you have a big bottle you can experiment.
I normally drink my malts neat, because that's how I like it but the main thing as scotman says is to enjoy it, so experiment a little until you find a way you like. If you decide you don't like it what ever you try I shall be more then willing to find a home for it.
