My dad is coming for lunch on Sunday. He usually goes to my gran's where he has a traditional dinner (meat, veg & gravy). Should I go with the flow and do the same or something different. He eats ready made meals the rest of the time (or takeaways) so I want to do something nice that he maybe doesn't get to eat these days.

ask him what he would like
He probably looks forward to a Sunday roast sher, especially given that he eats ready meals and takeaways through the week, so yes, I would do a lovely Sunday Roast for him!........
Why not do him something different for a change? Does he like fish?

Hi 4get, he'll just say that he will have what we're are having. Think he was a bit gobsmacked that I said I would cook (usually go out for Sunday dinner).

Hi Welsh, I had considered doing a joint of ham the way my mam used to do it (he probably hasn't had that since she went), not that it's anything particularly special.

Sorry Euphemia, you weren't the just now. I'm not brilliant at cooking fish as we don't eat it often.
tell him you would like to know as you would like to do his favourite
why not sher, if he enjoys that!.......
sounds a nice suggestion
The joint of ham seems a good idea.
sher, if you know he enjoys that, I would go with it!.......have a lovely day with your dad!..........

Thanks all - haven't seen him for ages. We don't go there as the are so many of us and he is busy, etc. Be nice to see him to make sure he is looking after himself properly.
Oh sher, hope you have the best day with your dad, sure he'll enjoy seeing you all, and sharing a meal with you!..........don't stress over it!..........be fine!......just enjoy seeing him!........
Ham sounds lovely and it would bring him happy memories.
You could do a really nice traditional dessert for him such as steamed treacle pudding.
