My husband enjoys cooking & still likes to make a traditional Sunday roast dinner. I know I shouldn't complain as it's always delicious & just as good as the ones I make.
However, the 'tradition' can sometimes drive me up the wall & I'd rather just have a snacky lunch.
Anyone else out there who still enjoys the trad lunch?
I love them when I get them, live on my own so not much point making a proper on just for me so make the most of it when i do have one and love cooking one for other people :)
I cheated today and got takeout from Barbuito as was out shopping. Not usually in at lunchtime on a sunday and rarely have lunch on a weekend.
Just cooked and eaten Roast Pork, crackling, Roast spuds, Carrots / swede mash, roasted aubergine and courgette, Sage and onion stuffing and HOMEMADE gravy, 2 bottles of nice sauvignon Blanc with the family....
All sat together at a table with real Knives and forks
hi... my ex partner was a great cook,,, he loved cooking a sunday roast just as much as i enjoyed scoffing it !!!! his gravy was just devine,,,,,,,,, roast tatties, carrots, chicken or beef or lamb my plate was empty every time.... oh how i miss his cookin!!!( but not him lol)
I'm sure if I was on my own like Jenna, I swear I'd live on Heinz Cream of Tomato or Vegetable Soup, with slices of fresh farmhouse bread & Anchor butter! Or jacket potatoes with Tuna & Sweetcorn filling - divine!
we very rarely have a roast on a Sunday, we are all busy doing things so sometime I will do a roast on a Thursday, but it makes it extra special for everyone when I do cook a roast as those times are not that frequent :( in fact my daughter jokes that Xmas is the only time she gets a roast dinner or when she goes to her Nanna's for lunch. Oh btw we don't eat our main meal at lunchtime either, we have it in the evening
My beloved partner and I were today invited to a very delightful restaurant / art gallery where we had the most delightful 3 course meal and a couple of pints, yummy!!
Hi smudge, No roast in this house either! I cooked midday for more than 25 years - then realised how much of this precious day was being spent in the kitchen with no time for anything else.
So now it's sandwiches and fruit midday, then out with the bins and 'scope - and in the evening we sit down and relax with whatever - but 'whatever' is always accompanied with wine :-)
