I'm making a soup for dinner tonight and I've just found some red split lentils in the cupboard. How would I put these in from dry or am I better off cooking as per packet instructions and adding to the soup at the end.

Thanks for any replies RR.

Just bung them in alongside your other ingredients - you might see a bit of foamy scum rise to the top as it comes to the boil. You can scoop this off or ignore it as fancy dictates.
so long as the soup you make simmers till they are cooked, you can bung them in at the start!

Thank you both, I'll give it a bash. X
Don't put too many in as they'll swell and thicken the soup... you could end up with cement ;-p
Would rinse lentils under running water beforehand then no need to skim of scum

Hmm, scared now, how any is too many? Pot is about 2.5 litres.
Half a cup of lentils should be alright.

Thanks, I put in about 75grams (ish), seems to be ok, can't see them though!
They've probably broken down with the cooking.
