Giant veg and bird cooking times

Hi, I will be attempting a world record in a few months for worlds largest roast dinner. Has anyone got any ideas for "Giant veg"? The gravy, yorkshire puddings can all be made larger and in larger volumes but am finding it hard to think of giant veg, we've thought of using giant roast pumpkins as the "potatoes" would the skins be edible if roasted? Also instead of a chicken we'll be using a whole ostrich, so any more ideas would be welcome.

Personally I wouldn't go with the ostrich..................have you considered an Oohmegoolie Bird?

Craft no offence but we're trying to set a world record here not make people laugh with made up animal names.
The reason we chose the ostrich is because it's the largest, it's just a pity the Madagascan elephant birds and Moa are extinct.

Would they have to be "rost potatoes"? You could do giant potato croquettes just with a load of mash and breadcrumbs. The skin on the pumpkin may be a bit tough but if you peel them you could use a blow-torch to colour the outside to resemble roasties

I'm not sure that many people class potato croquettes as part of the traditional roast dinner, though it does sound like a good idea if the others like it
I know, it was just an easier way round it but just realised you are going for a world record and it would have to be traditional. I will keep thinking!
Where would you get a whole ostrich from?

Thanks v&c, any and every ideas are welcome, we'll be getting the local or hopefully national papers to cover, as well as video the whole preperation, cooking and fingers crossed award ceremony in a timelapse style, if we do break the record I'll name this site as some of my inspiration, we'll all have aour 15 mins of fame if gods smiling on us on that day

The same vendors that sell ostrich steaks boo the internet has made everything so easy and accessable, I could order a whole alligator and have it on the barbeque this evening if i wanted! I'm currently awaiting several emails regarding price as we speak.

Haha, chichi, we'll probably need a little chainsaw. We are cooking it whole however, trussed up and presented like a roast turkey.
how are you going to cook the ostrich whole? - and the whole cabbages would represent sprouts better I think. Some squashes such as butternut and pattypan can be roasted and the skins are fairly thin but may not be in season depending on when your are doing this
Totally agree with Kristal I must have been having a brain freeze! Cabbages would definitely represent sprouts better. :)

Kristal we'll be cooking this in a giant purpose built oven which we haven't built yet but I have enquired about how to build it here.

Most definitely cabbages as sprouts, how big could I make yorkshire puds and what should I use as a dish so they keep their shape?
Just had a brainwave about the roasties, would it be possible to make a really think mash and use some kind of weak tasting brown edible foodstuff, (seaweed maybe?) to then cover the roasties so they look authentic?
Have you checked the eligibility criteria? Proposing to cheat the roast potatoes doesn't sound quite right to me.

you are goign to have to be really careful with the hot oil and the yorkies!
Could you do duchess potatoes? They could piped any size and in theory they are still roasted.
