I was always led to believe that Black Pudding was not very healthy, but I noticed that the Black Pudding Sainsbury had was only 5% fat.

Surely this is relatively healthy compared to sausages and chips?

wolf63, "rissoles" is just code word used for getting descriptons past the auto censor when commenting on those who disrespect Caledonia and her delicacies. :)
I love black pudding, and luckily it's included in P&O's breakfasts.
I used to like it, until I went to Bury market .. lots of people wander round chewing on these fat black puddings that are completely full of big chunks of white fat ... I have never eaten it since I went there.

I think I'm going to gag.!
I love black pudding - you don't need to cook it. It is great whatever way you do it. I remember seeing a programme ages ago where they were catching pig's blood in a big basin. I have always assumed it was made with pigs blood and I (foolishly I expect because I don't really understand it) thought the white bits were white corpuscles in the blood which magically collected together to form the white bits. (I know, I know - silly bitch!)
douglas - even thinking about rissoles makes me boak! I can't seem to think of one good thing to say about them.

I spoke to the OP earlier and he said that red puddings were maybe what the English would call a saveloy.
I love black pudding. It is very good for you as it is rich in iron.Doctors used to advise pregnant women to eat it for that very reason. I too like to eat it just as it comes from the shop. Yummy! Ive just put it on my shopping list!
Whhat about those lumps of white fat though? I used to love BP but have stopped eating it because I thought it was full of fat. I didn't realise it was a low-fat food. Must buy some ASAP.
Eugh ..... this comes second only to Mrs O's OH's piles!!!! Quite put me off me lunch :)
I love black pudding... Only as a supper though. Couldn't eat it on a roll or anything. I usually get white puddings from the chippy but will have a red next time, haven't had one in ages!

There's a pub near us that does haggis balls :-) they're yummy! Haha!
when I lived in Scotland, you used to be able to buy a breakfast pack in the butcher - a round of black pudding, a round of white pudding, and a round of sausage.
I am surprised that the animal rights brigade are not up in arms at that. Fancy emasculating all those poor little haggises just so that you can enjoy munching their gonads. Disgraceful!
Mike, you only use the one-legged ones.
Oh but they're so tasty Mike... With some red onion chutney... Mmmmm ^_^ hehe!!
yum yum !!!
I can't believe that the Great Black Pudding debate of 2012 is ongoing.

I like black pudding but have never had a 'black pudding supper' from the chip shop. One does purchase 'white pudding suppers' from the chip shop. As a fat person I only go to the chip shop about once a month, so it is a nice treat.

erin - the reason that we are seeing much less wild Haggis in the Perth area may be down to people eating the haggis balls. How are they expected to breed?

OP - does your family eat black pudding, haggis etc? What they need is pie from Murrays the baker. Such a local delicacy!
You are all philistines!

Black pudding is best eaten uncooked!
Impossible. It's cooked when you buy it.
Black pudding sandwiches were were always part of the buffet at darts and dominoes matches and nearly always the first to be eaten.
