2 Course Dinner

Hi guys.
I need suggestions / inspiration for dinner Saturday night. I want to do something really special - a starter and main (don't like Pud).
I would like to do red meat for main but have no preference when it comes to the starter.
Thanks xxx

For starters I like to do something informal that everyone (or you and another) can sit and pick at - a smorges bord -smoked salmon on toasts, selection of cured meats and pickles etc. For main choose something that can be made in advance -at this time of year a nice beef in red wine or a beef //venison wellington that can be prepped earlier in the day and bunged in the oven before starters -a nice salad and cheeseboard is what i would serve afterwards -and coffee with liqueurs and choccies.
Game pie would win me over no doubt! I don't like pudding either, but offer cheese and biscuits instead, most people go for that. I would usually serve a cold starter like prawn cocktail, something that I can prep up and just pop in front of people while I'm flaffin about getting mains ready. I love garlic butter mussels as a starter
