Late summer I put sugar and a load of blackberries in a couple of bottles of vodka, shook it about from time to time but largely forgot about it, well, I strained it all today and bottled it properly and can only say it's bloody delicious, a tad strong I think, but who cares :)

Lucky you! I had a bit of a panic and just bunged all my blackberries in the freezer and they are still there :-(
Ooooo Save some of that for me ;0)
Trish and I often collect what ever is in season, elderberries, blackberries , sloes etc and convert them to alcohol, we usually end up with enough to last until the next season. A mate of mine drops a packet of Werthers Originals into a bottle of vodka and forgets about it till they dissolves it sound weird but it tastes pretty smooth.
I have 9 bottles of sloe gin and 1 bottle of plum gin waiting to be strained and 2 bottles sloe gin, 2 bottles of damson gin, 1 bottle of quince gin nd 1 of quince vodka from last year waiting to be drunk.
But I've still got 3 bottles of sloe gin from the year before to finish.....
Party anyone?
On my way.......with Cremant for a Sloe Gin Fizz!!!
Have been known to make skittles vodka, and also feed a melon for a few days before Christmas [[ straight vodka] - a luscious boozy starter.
What sort of melon do you use for that Mamya? Sounds easy enough for me to make lol.
Have used both Honeydew and Watermelon, sit it in a large bowl and pierce with a largeish skewer - then daily dribble the vodka in, if you are really impatient try a funnel (small one mind)
Ooh, Mamya. Good idea!
I did ask once about how to make gin (on here) for friends and family, and got a mouthful from someone telling me I would need a license! :-/
A mouthful of gin?

DG, definitely I've got quite a bit. Eccles, get some on the go now, it'll be ready for spring, my friend makes sloe gin and she always uses berries straight from the freezer, she says the cold makes them burst so it saves her from pricking them all.
Have added melon to my shopping list!!!! Yummy

Shoota, how lucky are you? What does the plum gin taste like? I love damson wine, so I reckon it must be wonderful. When's the party ;)
Lisa, forgot to say, each day turn the melon in the bowl to ensure even soakage or someone gets all the vodka lol

Paddy, I did the Werthers thing for a friend a couple of years ago, it turned out very well, like a Baileys on fire.
Plum gin is OK but not as nice as sloe and needs alot of straining as it is so pappy .
Always make as much as I can for the years when there aren't that many sloes around and if you don't drink it for a while it just gets nicer and nicer.
It has replaced Port as our after dinner tipple now.
I'm drinking sloe port.....I warm it before six o clock so I don't feel bad.
I know we all laughed the first time it was mentioned but changed our mind after we tried it. Over the years Trish and I have made wine or other forms of alcohol and the only one we've sort of failed with is Plum Wine, it tastes ok but we can never seemed to get it cleared properly.
Aha......Dicey Riley....
"A mouthful of gin?"

Lol. No. Unfortunately not!
